The State of Distance Education in Saudi Arabia

Hend Suliman Al-Khalifa of King Saud University, Riyadh, writes about Saudi Arabia's adoption of distance education as part of its educational and development strategies. Policies for distance and virtual higher education institutions are still under development for approval by the Ministry of Higher Education. Distance education is primarily applied where gender segregation is required in higher education, where male lecturers are only authorized to teach female students by means of closed-circuit television, one-way video and two-way audio and broadcast.

Teaching Computing to Everyone

Georgia Institute of Technology has  required every undergraduate on campus to take a course in computing.  Here are the lessons learned from the practice, now almost 10 years old, of creating high-demand computer science courses for non-computing majors.

Shape the Future of Computing

ACM encourages its members to take a direct hand in shaping the future of the association. There are more ways than ever to get involved.

Get Involved

Communications of the ACM (CACM) is now a fully Open Access publication.

By opening CACM to the world, we hope to increase engagement among the broader computer science community and encourage non-members to discover the rich resources ACM has to offer.
