Q: Is the CACM website the same as the monthly CACM magazine?

A: No. The CACM website publishes Research, News, Opinion, and BLOG@CACM content before it appears in print in the monthly CACM magazine. Not all online content will appear in print, but all articles on the website are considered published in CACM and will appear in the ACM Digital Library. The site also publishes videos and hosts interactive web content that cannot appear in print.

Q: Does the CACM website replace the monthly CACM magazine?

A: No. The Communications of the ACM (CACM) remains the flagship publication of ACM and is published monthly, just as it has been for more than 60 years. ACM is committed to continuing to publish the monthly CACM magazine on paper and PDF.

Q: How do I find an article in the latest issue?

A: Articles from upcoming issues of the CACM magazine will appear online first. You can find all articles from published issues of the monthly magazine on the CACM website or in the ACM Digital Library. 

Q: How do I find an article from an archived issue?

A: Every article published in CACM of the ACM over the past 60-plus years is available in the magazine archive. Click on a cover image or issue date in the online archive to scan the table of contents, which leads to complete articles on the CACM website or in the ACM Digital Library.

Q: Do I have to register for the site?

A: CACM’s content is Open Access and accessible without sign-in or registration. However, some features, such as commenting or accessing the ACM Digital Library, require a sign-in to your ACM Web Account.

Q: How do I create an ACM Web Account?

A: ACM members and non-members can set up an ACM Web Account at https://accounts.acm.org/.

Q: How do I subscribe/unsubscribe to email alerts?

A: CACM content is available in multiple formats, including a monthly email notification announcing that a new issue is posted online. ACM members can control access to electronic mailing lists by signing into the ACM Member Portal and selecting Email & Mailing Lists.

Q: Does the CACM website replace the Digital Edition?

A: No. The CACM website publishes articles and content before they appear in the monthly CACM magazine. The Digital Edition is an enhanced PDF presentation of the monthly CACM magazine and contains the same content as the print magazine.

A: The ACM Digital Library is a vast collection of research articles from ACM journals and conferences. All ACM Members who subscribe to the Digital Library get unlimited access to full-text content, plus additional functionality such as Advanced Search and Personalized Services. Everyone has full-text access to all archived CACM material in the Digital Library.

A: Please send an email describing the problem, including the URL of the page in question, to cacm-admin@hq.acm.org.

A: We welcome comments and discussion of all site content. ACM members can click on the “Comment” link following any story.

A: All comments are attributed and require a sign-in using an ACM Member username and password. Comments submitted to this site will appear if they are relevant to the topic and not abusive.
