A fast random number generator for IBM 360

Posted

Marsaglia and Bray [1] recommend incorporating two-line random number generators directly into FORTRAN programs. One of the advantages of this is the time saved in avoiding linkage to and fro from a subroutine. Implicit in their FORTRAN routine for IBM 360 for Lehmer's multiplicative congruence method, namely; Uk+1 = &lgr;Uk (mod P), Xk+1 = Uk+1/P is the use of 232 as the value of modulus P.

Shape the Future of Computing

ACM encourages its members to take a direct hand in shaping the future of the association. There are more ways than ever to get involved.

Get Involved

Communications of the ACM (CACM) is now a fully Open Access publication.

By opening CACM to the world, we hope to increase engagement among the broader computer science community and encourage non-members to discover the rich resources ACM has to offer.
