Wael AbdAlmageed is a research associate professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and a research director with the Information Sciences Institute, both units of USC's Viterbi School of Engineering.
During the day, Wael AbdAlmageed writes computer code to help doctors diagnose the severity of genetic defects in children. He also creates programs that can identify deepfake videos that have been doctored to spread misinformation.

These are not incongruent skills, explains AbdAlmageed in a recent interview.
