NTU Singapore Start-Up Unveils Robot with Human-Like Dexterous Grip

Researchers have developed a robot that can lift and carry delicate optical lenses and mirrors with the care and precision of human hands.

Researchers at Eureka Robotics, a start-up spun out of Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU Singapore), have developed Archimedes, a robot that can pick up delicate optical lenses and mirrors with the care and precision of human hands.

Archimedes, equipped with a six-axis robot arm, uses algorithms to plan the arm's motion and determine how much force to exert in its grip.

Said NTU Singapore researcher Pham Quang Cuong, the robot's "accuracy of placing objects is within a tenth of a millimeter, yet it does so with the gentleness of a human touch, made possible by our control algorithms."

Archimedes is one of the first robots featuring High Accuracy–High Agility (HA-HA) to reach the manufacturing floor.
