Smithsonian conservator Sarah Stauderman opens the journal of paleontologist Charles Doolittle Wolcott to the page where he recorded a major discovery of fossils in the Canadian Rockies. Wolcott's journal has been transcribed online by volunteers and is now available to people who can't visit the archives firsthand.

During the past six months, retired pharmaceutical researcher Irv Cantor helped transcribe a 641-page field book written by an archaeologist traveling through 1920s China.
