Relative effects of central processor and input-output speeds upon throughput on the large computer

Posted

Presented in this paper is a technique for determining the relative effects of the internal speed of the computer and the speed of the input-output units upon the overall speed of the system. Equations are derived which permit the determination of these effects from hardware usage measurements.

Shape the Future of Computing

ACM encourages its members to take a direct hand in shaping the future of the association. There are more ways than ever to get involved.

Get Involved

Communications of the ACM (CACM) is now a fully Open Access publication.

By opening CACM to the world, we hope to increase engagement among the broader computer science community and encourage non-members to discover the rich resources ACM has to offer.
