The job market for new college graduates is rebounding from the COVID-19-driven decline.

Employers who had slowed recruiting during the pandemic have accelerated efforts to fill pressing hiring needs, says Phil Gardner, director of Michigan State University's Collegiate Employment Research Institute and author of the Recruiting Trends 2021-2022 Report.

Employers expressed an interest in all academic majors, with more indicating a preference for business, engineering, and computer science/IT. Employers say they have also realized significant cost savings and efficiencies from virtual recruiting.

Strong hiring growth is expected in computer services and software, which will be up 21% from last year. Hiring for scientific research will be up 22%. More than half of employers expect to increase starting salary offers in these areas, the report says.
